    Experience Level: Beyond Basic, some prior experience preferred

    In this 3-day workshop students learn how to use the Chinese brushes, ink and colors, as well as the theory of the Asian Art, and using the techniques to paint two styles of Chinese paintings: Spontaneous style and Half Detail and Half Spontaneous style. The subjects will be flower, fish, animal and landscape (no bamboo, chrysanthemums, orchids, nor plum blossoms). There are about 4-6 demos each day with student practices between that allows them to absorb and assimilate the lessons.

    There will be critic sessions and Lian offers assistance to students for improving the paintings. Below is the material list but Lian strongly suggest students not to spend time and more money to search and buy them because he carriers them to the class for sale. The prices of his materials are more economical than suppliers in the US compare to the same qualities.

    Lian has made up a material kit or those who dose not have any of them. It includes: 4 rice papers about 30″x50″ each, 4 brushes from extra small to large, one small box of color with 12 tubes and one bottle of ink 100mg. The price is only $35.00. Students who already have some materials can buy whatever they need, but not the whole kit.

    Material list: Shuan Paper(rice paper):
    One mature (sized) and 2 raw Shuan Papers (size approximately 30 inch x50 inch).
    Brushes: Four Chinese brushes from extra small to large.
    Ink: One small bottle Chinese painting ink or Sumi ink.
    Colors: Chinese painting colors (12 tubes in one set).
    Others: One plywood board or gatorboard size about 16″x23″, a half-sheet watercolor paper,a large palette, a pencil, a hair dryer, a medium size water sprayer, an apron, a pare of scissors and one roll of white paper towel.
