The St. Cloud State Wind Ensemble and Campus Band performs a program entitled “Homeland” on Tuesday, March 24 at 7:30 PM in Ritsche Auditorium. This concert features music for wind band by Darius Milhaud and Percy Grainger. Darius Milhaud’s Suite Francaise is a five-part work named after French provinces where American and Allied armies fought in World War II – Normandy, Brittany, Ile-de-France (Paris), Alsace-Lorriane and Provence. Percy Grainger’s Colonial Song is an original work dedicated to his homeland Australia and its people. Also on the program are settings of folk songs by Grainger, the bombastic Italian style march, The Florentiner by Julius Fucik, and the rousing energy of Shostakovich’s Galop. The St. Cloud State Wind Ensemble is a select group of 35 performers, mostly St. Cloud State University music majors led by conductor Catharine Bushman. The SCSU Campus Band is comprised of about 40 musicians from all over campus and in the St. Cloud Community. Please call (320) 308-3223 for more information.
