The St. Cloud State Wind Ensemble performs its first and only concert of the semester on Sunday, November 24 at 3 pm in Ritsche Auditorium. The program is entitled, “Pictures at an Exhibition” and it features a new wind transcription of Modest Mussorgsky’s work originally scored for piano. Pictures at an Exhibition is best known by the orchestral transcription done by Maurice Ravel and this new transcription by Texas composer Merlin Patterson attempts to realize the work in a unique way for the modern wind band. The program also includes a feature work for four percussionists entitled Concertino for Four Percussion by American composer David Gillingham. Music students Matthew Nelson, Eric Palmer, Devin Tomczik and Eric Elker are the featured soloists. Additional works include Promise of Living by Aaron Copland and the Gallant Seventh by John Philip Sousa. The St. Cloud State Wind Ensemble is a select group of about 30 performers, mostly St. Cloud State University music majors led by conductor Catharine Bushman. Please call (320) 308-3223 for more information.
