THE SINCLAIR LEWIS FOUNDATION OF SAUK CENTRE PRESENTS: The 2012 Sinclair Lewis Writers’ Conference
One of the longest-running, most respected writers’ conferences in the upper Midwest is back in Sauk Centre for its 23rd year! The conference has attracted such renowned keynote speakers as Frederick Manfred, Robert Bly, Jon Hassler, Carol Bly, Leif Enger, Bill Holm, Will Weaver, Patricia Hampl, Kevin Kling and Gary Paulsen. This year’s keynote speaker is Don Shelby, Emmy-winning reporter and television anchor, as well as author, playwright and actor. Shelby will be joined by three other professional writers who will share their writing and marketing expertise:
Heid Erdrich will discuss the prose poem and its Japanese cousin
Douglas Wood will examine the writer’s path in terms of magic, meaning and metaphor
Laurie Hertzel will talk about finding your story and telling the truth in memoir writing
The day-long gathering will again look at the process of writing as well as selling what you write. The conference is on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Sauk Centre High School auditorium. Cost is $60, including lunch, breaks and a reception following at the Palmer House Hotel. College students and senior citizens may register for $55; high school students may attend for free, but must register and pay $15 for lunch and breaks.
Both beginning and established writers are invited to attend the conference. Participants will have the chance to hear three different presentations, the keynote talk, and a panel discussion during the day.
The Sinclair Lewis 2012 Writers Conference is made possible by the financial sponsorship of the following organizations: The Stearns History Museum, Minnesota National Bank of Sauk Centre, First State Bank of Sauk Centre, Central Minnesota Federal Credit Union, Stearns Electric Association, and the Sinclair Lewis Foundation. The conference is also made possible by a grant from the Central Minnesota Arts Board, through funding provided by the Minnesota State Legislature. Sauk Centre Community Education is a co-sponsor of the event.
