Visual Arts Minnesota presents a group art exhibition called Undimension, as part of the Young Artist Exhibition Program. This exhibition features a series of paintings, sculptures and drawings by regional high school artists who have been participating in a series of workshops that help with professional skills as visual artists.
The young artists that will be presented in this gallery will be Madeline Trobec of Holdingford High School, Jessica Schmit of Apollo High School, Brittany Thole of Tech High School, Karli Jopp of Elk River High School, Abraham Williams of Elk River High School and Bobi Sanderson of Saint Cloud Area Learning Center.
The art exhibition runs from February 6 – March 16, 2012. An artist reception will be held on March 16, 5-9pm, during the downtown St. Cloud Art Crawl. The exhibit is located at the U.S. Bank Downtown Saint Cloud at 1015 West Saint Germain Street.
The Young Artist Exhibition Program is in its second year, teaching young artists about the importance of art exhibition, self promotion, and career planning in the arts.
The young artists respond to the value of this program:
Jessica Schmit says, “Presentation wise, I’ve learned a lot. I’ve never really framed my work before, so learning all about how framing and presentation works has been something completely new that I’ve learned. I’ve also just learned more about process, and how I work compared to other artists.”
Karli Jopp says, “It wouldn’t be possible for me to have a career that doesn’t involve art. Being a part of the Young Artist Exhibition Program basically just took that idea of some way creating art as a living, and blew it up. It made me stronger and gave me more hope and valuable information. It made that dream seem real.”
Bobi Sanderson says, “This opportunity has opened my eyes even more to the world of art, realizing it’s all around us. From styling your hair to body modification or plastic surgery, it is all a type of art. We, ourselves, are artwork for we can create our own image and play with it.”
Abe Williams says, “Learning the basics like framing and matting and letting your work breath was a big help to me. Also have respect for what you make and be proud of it because what you make that is original is beautiful in its own way.”
Executive Director, Heidi Steadman, says, “this group of kids have a lot to say, and have the skills to say it. This is just the beginning, but the last thing we should do (as adults) is discourage them from using their talents to communicate and transform their future realities.”
This activity is funded, in part, by a grant from the Central MN Arts Board, through appropriations from the MN State Legislature with money from the state’s general fund, and its arts & cultural heritage fund that was created by a vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
